This autumn, we’re celebrating our newest addition, Joe’s Bar, with a series of performances by new and emerging artists from independent labels. ‘Joe’s Bar Live’ performances will occur on weeknights beginning at 8pm.

Since opening in Covent Garden in 1977, Joe Allen Restaurant has become a theatreland institution. Last year it expanded with the addition of Joe’s Bar, an authentically styled New York tavern that complements the restaurant’s American charm. Joe’s Bar evokes the discreet neighbourhood bars of downtown New York with its leather banquettes, rich walnut counter, and exposed brick wall. Wooden benches line the bar, and the wood-panelled walls are adorned with memorabilia.

The essential ingredient of any bar is the cocktails. Russell Norman is the inspiration behind the distinctive cocktail menu at Joe’s Bar, using recipes from his historical long connection with Joe Allen which began in the 1980s as a waiter and bartender.

The cocktail menu for Joe’s Bar Live boasts classic cocktails one would expect to find in a New York speakeasy. True to the American vibes, there’s a whisky sour made with Johnny Walker Black Label whisky. The Lynchburg Lemonade conjures scenes of the American South, with a blend of Bulleit bourbon, sour mix, triple sec, and soda. Tanqueray London Dry gin is the not-so-secret ingredient in the Bitter Queen, with dubonnet, angostura bitters, and rose lemonade completing the concoction. To warm up on cold autumn evenings, there’s an Irish coffee, prepared with The Singleton Dufftown Whisky.

Best of all, two signature serves are available at only £7 each. The rich Sazerac blends Bulleit bourbon with absinthe, peach bitters, angostura, sugar syrup, and orange peel. The delicate Violet Vesper includes Tanqueray gin, Ketel One vodka, Violette, and maraschino cherry.

Joe’s Bar Live begins on the 21st of September with the irresistible stage presence of Joe Slater. The young Liverpudlian from Croxteth will deliver a smooth blend of rock, blues, and soul. He believes in sharing great music and good times, which shines through in a saturating sound that seems beyond his years.

Singer-songwriter Natalie Lindi will grace the Joe’s Bar stage on the 5th of October. Her passionate performances take their cues from Jazz and Soul queens like Minnie Ripperton, Lianne La Havas, and Nina Simone. Lindi’s vulnerable songs draw from personal experiences, bravely inviting audiences completely into her inner world. She is an emotional and unforgettable performer.

The 19th of October brings the powerful vocals of Rebekah Fitch to Joe’s Bar Live. The alternative-pop artist from Ireland is currently drawing accolades on the live circuit in London. She’s described as an ‘absolute wow’. Fitch combines strong melodies with thoughtful poetry, and her versatility on multiple instruments is always impressive.

All performances will begin at 8 p.m. at Joe’s Bar.
